The Good : Hundred of fonts available, online as well as for download. Free to use. Very clear and well-made interface.
The Bad : The font collection is impressive, but only a few of them are really well-designed. The categorising tools are not enough complete ( it would for example be interesting to be able to choose between families of the Vox-ATypl such as humanist, or transitional).
The Bottomline : It is a good way for a graphic designer to avoid using the classical fonts of the internet such as Georgia or Helvetica. It allows to create new and originals designs, with fonts drawn for the web, and promote free fonts.

REVIEW (subjective info)
The user interface How easy or hard is it to grasp? Is it intuitive, relatively easy to follow?
Or is it unclear, too complex? What can you say about the interface?
The interface is very complete and intuitive. You have a lot of options and tools to choose a font, and then to compare it to other fonts or test it inside the interface before including it to your website. You can easily find all the informations about the typeface and how to include it to a website.

What would/could a designer use this tool for?
This tool can be used for any website. It is a good way for a graphic designer to avoid using the classical fonts of the internet such as Georgia or Helvetica. It allows to create new and originals designs, with fonts drawn for the web, and promote free fonts. As fonts are downloadable, you can even use them for printed matters (even if it might be less efficient than on a website because most of the fonts have been drawn for a web use).
Depending on what kind of free this tool is, how “free” is this tool really?
Google web fonts are Open Source. You are free to use and share them. You can also customize them for your own use, or collaborate with the original designer to improve them. You can download each font on your own computer, and use it on the web as well as for print matters (privately and commercialy).
